Raring to go for Weekend on the Carrs    June 18, 2016

Weekend on the Carrs-  Saturday and Sunday18/19 June

Wilmslow is set to enjoy a fantastic weekend of free entertainment in the Carrs next weekend, courtesy of Wilmslow Town Council.

The Cinema on the Carrs is back for its second year, this time showing everyone’s favourite singalong film, ‘Grease”.  Last year’s event saw some 1000 people enjoying ‘Mamma Mia’ and this year should be just as much fun.  There will be a movie themed food court and a full bar available on the night, and people are encouraged to bring their friends and enjoy some good old fashioned entertainment.  Bring along your own seating – blankets and deckchairs all welcome but please no gazebos or dogs; you could even bring along a picnic.

Gates open at 6pm on Saturday 18th June with the main feature (Grease) being shown from 7-45pm.  Get there early and secure your pitch. The event takes place near the Hawthorn Lane entrance to the Carrs and within easy walking distance from Town Centre Car Parks that are free after 6pm.

John Mills, a director of the Wilmslow Business Group, who has helped the Wilmslow Town Council team in organizing the event said “We’re really delighted that the Cinema on the Carrs is back for a second year.  Earlier this year we asked the people of Wilmslow to vote for the movie  they wanted to see and the overwhelming popular vote amongst Wilmslow residents was for ‘Grease”, it should be a really great night.  We look forward to seeing lots of people enjoying this classic movie in lovely surroundings.”

On Sunday 19th June, the Party on the Carrs is back for its 5th year.  With a host of community stalls, bouncy castles, trampolines, sports clubs, street food and live musical entertainment, the event has become one of Wilmslow’s favourite fixtures of the summer.  Greater details of the participating music acts and community groups can be found on our Facebook page “Party on the Carrs”

This year’s event, for the first time, sees sports clubs including WFA and Wilmslow Town FC, Everybody Leisure from the Leisure Centre, Bushido Ju-Jitsu and Pownall Park Tennis Club offering demos and activities throughout the day.  If you fancy trying the speed gun challenge to see how powerful your kick is then this is the place to try it.  It’s Father’s Day so why not bring Dad along and challenge him?  Everybody Leisure will be bringing their smoothie bike where you can make some healthy food at the same time as keeping fit and there will be demonstrations from Bushido Ju-Jitsu during the afternoon.

Community Groups will also be offering competitions, tombolas and other activities and you can enjoy all of these whilst listening to some fantastic music from various acts in the two musical performance areas.

The event runs from 12pm to 5pm and entry is free to all.  For more information follow us on Facebook “Party on the Carrs”and Twitter “@partycarrs”

Chairman of Wilmslow Town Council, Martin Watkins, said “The Town Council is really pleased to deliver this community event for a fifth year and is grateful to all the volunteers who have helped plan the event including John Mills and Georgie Johnson and those on the day including the Rotary Club of Wilmslow Dean.  The weekend of activities on the Carrs has something for everyone, young and old, and we look forward to seeing many local residents and their families enjoying our wonderful local park.”
